Overview
This MCP server enables AI agents to perform comprehensive WHOIS lookups to retrieve domain, IP, ASN, and TLD information. It exposes four tools: whois_domain to fetch domain-level data, whois_tld for top-level domain details, whois_ip for IP WHOIS, and whois_as for ASN WHOIS. A WHOIS lookup returns a variety of data such as the domain name, registrar, registrant details (unless privacy is enabled), registration and expiry dates, authoritative name servers, domain status, and contact information for administrative, technical, and billing contacts. The server is designed to be integrated into MCP-enabled AI workflows like Cursor, Roo Code, and Claude Desktop, enabling agents to check domain availability, ownership, and other registration details without leaving the AI environment or using a browser. It can be run via npx @bharathvaj/whois-mcp@latest, and is compatible with MCP Inspector for debugging.
